FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

What does A&E Produktionstechnik GmbH stand for?

We develop, manufacture, and distribute flexible injection molding solutions for single- and multi-component machines, as well as vertical injection molding machines, to comply with the Circular Economy Act. One advantage of our solutions is that our 2K sandwich systems and hot runner adapter plates are compatible with any standard machine on the market—regardless of size or manufacturer.

What value do your solutions add to my business?

Instead of costly machine or tool modifications, you can save money with our functional upgrades using sandwich and/or hot-runner plates. A&E also provides detailed advice to interested parties on cost-benefit analyses.

How can you help us use more recycled material in our products?

Our technology allows us to strategically place recycled material in the core of the component while maintaining a high-quality surface made of virgin material on the outside—thus increasing the proportion of recycled material without the customer even noticing.

Can your solutions help with compliance with legal requirements (e.g., the Circular Economy Act)?

Yes. Unfortunately, the legal requirements are currently “confusing,” and current circumstances—such as the shortage of high-quality recycled materials and the fact that virgin materials are currently cheaper than recycled materials—make it difficult to guarantee the long-term use of sandwich technology.

Is the use of your technology (or technologies) economically viable?

Using our technologies in two-component injection molding is definitely worth it from an economic standpoint. Instead of purchasing new machines, you can expand your existing equipment to include the functions you need.

What is 2K sandwich injection molding, in simple terms?

Simply put, the result is a “sandwich”: at the core is a base material (e.g., recycled material), and on the outside is a solid layer of high-quality virgin material that ensures both appearance and functionality.

What is the typical process for a project with A&E?

We start by evaluating your components and objectives, develop a technical concept, design the tooling and injection molding solution, and support you all the way through to stable mass production.

How much internal work will this entail?

You provide component, machine, material, and process data; we handle the design, engineering, and commissioning—your team is involved so that they can operate the solution safely on their own later on.

Does the use of recycled material reduce product quality?

No, because the recycled material is used in the core, while the outer layer is made of high-quality material—the functionality of your component remains intact, often at a lower cost.

How do you ensure a stable process?

We assist with sample production and optimization on the machine, define a robust process window, and train your employees to ensure the process runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis.

Who can I contact for an initial assessment?

Simply use our contact form or give us a call—we’ll inspect your component at no obligation and provide you with an initial technical and cost assessment.

Will your technology work with our existing injection molding machines?

Yes. Our systems are designed to work with standard machine types and sizes and can be integrated into both new and existing facilities. We recommend that interested parties schedule a (free) consultation.

Do I have to completely rebuild my existing tools?

Molds with cold runner sprue systems are suitable for the sandwich process. If these molds have multiple cavities, the cold runner may need to be balanced to ensure equal proportions of core material in all cavities. Hot runner molds require modification, as color or material changes occur once or twice per cycle in the sandwich process. A color or material change in hot runner molds always involves multiple purge cycles. A&E has the necessary expertise in this area and can advise interested parties.
